When in Rome do as the Roman do – is a saying that we have all heard quite a few times now. The saying essentially was penned down by a theologian by the name of Ambrose. Back then church practices differed from town to town and parish to parish, which caused a lot of friction between people. So the phrase ‘when in Rome…’ urged people to set aside petty differences and take new customs in their stride.
